At First, And Then

I started my blog in October 2004 as one chapter of my life in George was closing, and another chapter of my life in Washington DC was opening. I always wanted the focus of my blog to be about my eclectic taste in music. Specifically, I envision each entry as a “snapshot” of what was going on in my life, framed within the context of a random song from my collection.

This was easy to accomplish in the first year, and, I felt that I "more or less" lived up to my original concept. However, in 2005 my blog took a more personal perspective when I started blogging about Hurricane Katrina. Additionally, I quickly discovered how uninteresting my life really was, and how my point of view is not inordinately unique. Therefore, unless something utterly fantastic happened in my life (a great find at the record store, or an unbelievable concert), I found it increasingly difficult to find something to blog about. Also, my Blog Rank at Technorati always hovered around Rank: 1,700,000. This is not a very encouraging statistics.

As was the case in 2004, another chapter is closing...and, as a result, I have decided to discontinue my blog. Also, as was the case in October 2004 so shall be the case in March 2009..it will end with a song.

Dead Can Dance

I believe the first song that I heard from Dead Can Dance was "Frontier." I say believe because it might have been "The Protagonist." What I do remember is that I heard the tracks at the apartment of Andres Zervigon, in Jamaica Plain, a suburb of Boston. I also remember it being extremely late, as we had devoted a considerably amount of the evening clubbing. Despite the late hour, I was cognizant enough to "request more." Andres complied with "It'll End in Tears" from This Moral Coil. Lisa Gerrard and Brendan Perry along with a number of other 4AD artists contributed tracks to this album. This began my love affair with Dead Can Dance.
